This Week’s Lunch Box Filler

Muesli or Berry-Topped Yoghurt

I know life is busy, especially at this time of year, and sometimes it can be easier and less stressful to grab something ready-made off the supermarket shelf.  I know I can be guilty of it, but there are some things I just won’t budge on and this is one of them.  You have probably seen them in your dairy section, containers of yoghurt with a sprinkling of muesli or frozen berries for you to tip into your yoghurt once you have opened it.  It’s a great idea and it’s a healthy choice for your child’s lunch box, but personally I can’t come at $3.75 for 225 grams of yoghurt with a couple of tablespoons of muesli when for $3.98 I can buy 1kg of yoghurt at the same store.

My kids love this snack, and often request it for breakfast.  Just make sure to choose an appropriate yoghurt and muesli if you are packing  lunch for a diabetic.  If you invest in a couple of containers and an ice-pack you can quickly re-create it yourself.  Here I have used my EZ-Freeze containers by Stayfit.  I have no ties at all with Stayfit, I just stumbled across these containers by accident, made an impulse buy, and ended up loving them.  The night before I freeze the large container (but not the lid) and the next morning before school I just fill it with some yoghurt, pop the lid on and into the lunch box it goes with a small container of either muesli or frozen berries and a spoon.  Easy!  You couldn’t grab the container off the supermarket shelf and place it in your trolley any faster.
